Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat
  • 3 eggs room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup milk preferably whole
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract pure
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional, for extra richness

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pan or line with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool completely before serving or frosting as desired.

Notes

You can also use this batter for cupcakes — just adjust the baking time to 18-22 minutes. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
