Equipment

  • Small Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low-sodium works great
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cornstarch optional, for thickening
  • 2 tsp water for cornstarch slurry
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger optional
  • 1 pinch chili flakes optional

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • (Optional) Mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Add to the sauce and stir until thickened, about 1–2 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust—add more honey for sweetness, or more vinegar for a little kick.
  • Let it cool slightly and use right away, or store in the fridge for up to a week.
