Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Orange and black gel food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter, then mix in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture.
  5. Divide batter into two bowls; tint one orange and one black.
  6. Spoon batters into cupcake liners, swirling for a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, then cool completely.
  8. Beat butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for frosting.
  9. Tint half orange and half black; pipe onto cooled cupcakes.
